‘I Want To Recreate Fener Magic’ - Tuncay

ronaldo.jpgBORO new boy Tuncay Sanli wants to forge the same fantastic rapport with Boro fans as he enjoyed with the Fenerbahce supporters who adored his pace, skill and workrate.

In an exclusive interview with mfc.co.uk on Friday afternoon after signing on the dotted line, the Turkish attacker revealed a burning belief that he and Boro would prove the perfect partnership.

He also said he is equally at home playing in a number of attacking positions, whether up front or in midfield.

Having agreed a four-year contract, Tuncay will join Boro on a free transfer subject to a successful work permit application.

He told mfc.co.uk: “I can play in midfield, on the right wing, behind the striker or, of course, as the main striker. I have played in all of these positions for Fenerbahce and for Turkey.”

The official website has been inundated with hundreds of emails from the Istanbul-based Fenerbahce fans, expressing their love for the player and their decision to make Boro their English team.

Tuncay whose full name is pronounced Tun-ji Shan-la had been made aware of the emails and laughed before saying how much he appreciated the gesture by fans of his former club.

“I have always been a team player,” he said, speaking in broken English. “I play with my heart, as Fenerbahce fans will confirm.

“I had a fantastic relationship with them because they knew I always gave everything I had for the team when I was on the pitch. In return, they always gave me great support.

“Of course, now I hope I have that same relationship with the Middlesbrough supporters and that they will enjoy my style.

“I believe my playing style will suit Middlesbrough and the way that Gareth Southgate wants the team to play. I think we will be ideal for each other.”

Asked what main attributes he would bring to the Riverside team, he answered, “I am competitive but I think that I will bring speed and a hard-working attitude to the team. I will always give 100 per cent.

“I am very ambitious to win things and achieve success, as I know Middlesbrough are, so I can promise I will do my very best for the club and the supporters.”

Boro’s run to the UEFA Cup final the year before last had brought the club to Tuncay’s attention and he has already seen the team in action on a number of occasions.

“I am very happy to be here and to sign for Middlesbrough,” he added. “I have heard a lot about the club and have seen the team many times on television.

“Ever since I was a young boy, I have wanted to play in the English Premier League and I know that Middlesbrough are one of the most influential teams in the top division, so I am excited about this chance.”

Boro plan to hold a press conference with the player following his return to Teesside on July 6.
