Southgate: Tuncay Will Light Up Euro

eb879tuncayyt5.jpg Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is confident that Tuncay Sanli will be a household name by the time the final whistle is blown on Euro 2008.The 26-year-old certainly doesn’t lack for star power in his native Turkey, or in Boro for that matter, but his name still doesn’t carry much weight on the international level.

Tuncay joined Middlesbrough on a free transfer from Fenerbahce last summer, and after taking time to adjust to the pace and physical demands of English Premier League football, began to flourish with Boro.

821390.JPGSubstitute Daryl Murphy ensured Sunderland will play in next season’s Barclays Premier League with a last-gasp winner against Middlesbrough.

The game looked to be heading for a draw - which would not have been the worst result for either side - when Boro’s record signing Afonso Alves fired home a 73rd-minute equaliser.

The Teessiders had got off to the perfect start when Tuncay Sanli gave them a fourth-minute lead, but Danny Higginbotham equalised within two minutes as a compelling contest which neither side could afford to lose ebbed and flowed in front of 45,059 nervous spectators.

Tuncay makes Boro’s day against Derby

47g0nwq.jpgTurkish striker Tuncay Sanli made Middlesbrough’s day with the solitary goal in the home side’s defeat of Premier League basement dwellers Derby on Saturday.

The win eased Boro’s relegation fears - they’re now sitting 12th on 34 points, and left Derby rooted at the bottom of the table with just 10 points from their 31 games played.

Boro almost took the lead in the seventh minute through defender David Wheater, whose performances this season earned him a call-up to Fabio Cappello’s England squad earlier this week.

ON the day that Tuncay Sanli signed for Boro, 60 per cent of the visitors to the official website were from Turkey.That alone should have given some indication of the kind of player the club were getting. Thousands of Fenerbahce Fans switched allegiance to Boro as they followed their favourite player to his new English club.

After a slow start to life in the Barclays Premier League Tuncay has now started to shine and show why he is the David Beckham of Turkish football.
